NOTE TO SELF: part the sixth.3

...wife would like it known the previous photo was a fake. It was doctored years ago by Steve Gadlin as a part of an elaborate prank on Paul Luikart....

NOTE TO SELF: part the sixth.2

...while it may seem like a good idea to shave off your eyebrows in order to look more like your daughters it is not...

NOTE TO SELF: part the sixth

...after viewing a plethora, a myriad, a cornucopia, a whole bunch of Mary Jane's baby pictures it has become apparent that both daughters look like their mother and only their mother. Any noticed similarities between them and their father were merely products of wishful thinking...

NOTE TO SELF: part the fifth

...babies can only sneeze in your face so many times before you get their cold...

NOTE TO SELF: part the fourth

...more frequent posting does not rectify a lack of posting when people have stopped reading the blog due to lack of posting....

NOTE TO SELF: part the third.3

...don't write posts which make it sound like you ran over your wife...

NOTE TO SELF: part the third.2

...small car can equal big bruises on wife...

NOTE TO SELF: part the third

...while wife has proven herself acrobatically adept at moving between the front and backseats of car speeding down the highway, still might consider vehicle big enough for her to sit in backseat with babies.......

Addendum to earlier note....

In order to clear up any confusion the earlier note may have created within the hearts and minds of its readers (Kim). The four Broges who currently reside at 5452 Nagel did make and survive the trip to Chattanooga. They are filled with joy at seeing all their relatives and showing off the youngest of the Broge four to the their genealogical ancestors. They also look forward to time spent with friends traveling in from out of town (this would be you Kim and Mary (and John too if you are coming)). We hope this addendum to our previous note has cleared up any and all confusion.

PS the author of this note is quite aware of the fact that Mary lives here in the area, but technically up on the mountain is still another town, and depending where you are on the mountain (the author of this note will confess he forgets the exact location of your domicile) you may even be in another state. Travel safely. ;)

Smiles and Parker lover her sister (A post from Mary Jane)

The girls started smiling and cooing in the past two weeks. It is awesome. I love it. I have attempted several times to capture their smiles on film, but it isn't too easy. Emma Jane started doing all of this first (ironically when she stopped eating- she had better things to do than eat. The girl loves to smile.) but Parker now has a lot to say and makes noises all day long. Here is are the best pictures I have so far... although I WILL get better ones:

Parker also has started licking everything... including her sister...

Then she felt bad for making Emma Jane cry and made it up to her by falling asleep on her (P.S. I didn't position them like this... it was all on their own).

As far as an eating update... Emma Jane seems to be doing better these last couple of days. We have been to the pediatrician and nothing seems to be wrong with either one of them except for a lack of desire to eat. Parker is now taking her turn (again) and appears to never be hungry. It is so frustrating. I have the dietitian telling me not to force feed them, only feed them when they seem hungry, etc... and then the pediatrician (and myself) knowing how much they need to take eat in a day in order to gain some good weight. I have relaxed the feeding schedule as much as I can, but I have several forces working against me. One, there are two of them and they need to eat roughly at the same time or else they are going to snack and eat at all hours of the day. Two, they are still so small and I am sure everyone who has ever had a preemie knows all you want them to do is gain weight. And three, lots of times babies with reflux don't show as many signs of hunger and only eat until the initial hunger feeling is gone- that is textbook what Parker does. She eats exactly the same amount and then the fight begins to get the rest down... I am supposed to make eating a "fun and bonding time", but no matter what I try... the result is the same- a battle of the will between me and Parker. Sometimes I don't know if she won't eat because it hurts or won't eat because she doesn't want to. Its hard to stay frustrated at her though. Lots of times as soon as I take the bottle out of her mouth, she smiles. And she is very happy and cute and fun when she isn't eating! All this is to say, prayers for Parker (and Emma Jane) to eat are appreciated.

In other news, I realize Jason never posted that we are officially done with the eye doctor!!!!!! The girls eyes look normal and we only go back for a routine check in 6 months. The good news is when we go back for that, they don't have to use the barbaric looking torture devices to look in their eyes.

Those are all the updates I think. I am going to go sleep for a few more hours. Happy reading...

An odd weekend...

...we were all together!

It was pretty awesome. For 48 hours Mary Jane and I were together. It was crazy. The craziness quickly went to our heads. On Saturday we suddenly felt brave enough to face the outside world. That's right....we left the house...with the girls. Sure we considered going out just the two of us, but while Emma Jane does seem to be pretty responsible she still can't quite dial 911 in case of an emergency. She gets stumped after the first 1. But can you blame her? Two 1's is pretty tricky.
So we took them with us.
First we drove through the Starbucks drive through...cause we need some liquid courage to make it through the rest of our errands. Next we went to the dry cleaner where Mary Jane waited in the car as I went in to get the dry cleaning. Things went pretty well for me, but it must have been tough in the car because all of Mary Jane's liquid courage was gone by the time I got back. With this harrowing experience over and all seemingly having gone well we went really nuts and went to Target. Now Target was a significantly more tricky expedition. In order to accomplish this feat we actually needed to take the girls out of the car and into the store with us. It was a surreal experience. The building was filled with people, and none of them stared at us, none of them cared we had twins, none of them seemed to even know who we were. It could be the first time in five months we have been in a place like that.
Fresh from our Saturday victories we decided to take life by the horns and threw all caution to the wind. We went to Church. It turns out that Church, while also a building full of people, really has nothing in common with Target. Target was filled with people who didn't know us, while the Church was filled with people who did. At Target no one cared that we were there, at Church every one was shocked to see us there. Shocked in a positive way. Here we were amongst a group of people who have been feverishly praying for us for five months. It was really great to see all the love people have for our two little beautifuls. This was just a first time to Church, so we kept things simple. We really didn't want to overwhelm the girls so we didn't pass them around. We were just happy they made it through the service without any breakdowns. But it was still great to worship as a family.

I would keep blathering on for a while, but it's time to feed the girls.
How's that going?
Not so great. For some reason Emma Jane has been giving us a lot of trouble when it comes to eating, and Parker has slowed down to. If you are looking for a way of praying specifically that would be a great place to start. Thank you for your love and concern.

Happy Birthday Samuel

Samuel Eduardo Machado is our godson. His parents (Marcos and Hannah) are Emma Jane's godparents. Today is Samuel's birthday. Now godparents worth having would probably have called today, but us? Nope. In our defense we were a little distracted by Marcos and Hannah's goddaughter who was being a pain in the...um...neck. Anybody want a colicky baby? How about a colicky baby who won't eat? Cause we got one. I won't say which baby we're talking about...just that her name rhymes with Hemma Blane.
In all seriousness, Emma Jane has had a rough day. Yesterday wasn't great for her, but today she just decided that she wanted to cry instead of eat. Luckily Mary Jane got to come home early from work because when she got here dad was pretty near tears. He was convinced the girl was deathly ill because she wouldn't eat and usually Emma Jane is all about the food. Okay...I'm exaggerating a little, I didn't think she was deathly ill, but I did learn something else about myself. Turns out I can ignore the crying and cuddle and coo and not let it phase me, but if they seem like they are in pain it just breaks the lump of coal I have hidden away in a Tupperware container where my heart should be.
All this is a way of saying...Marcos, Hannah sorry we didn't call today. It's 10:50 your time now and we figure it's too late. But know we were thinking about you and were meaning to. Tell Samuel we said Happy Birthday.

We love you guys.

When the Machados were in town a couple of weeks ago I told Samuel he could pick out his future wife. Here we see Samuel resorting to the sniff test. Who ever has the smelliest feet is out.

And we have a winner!
If you are curious to know Samuel's thoughts on this and, well all things Samuel you should check out his blog.
